Saint Matthew the Apostle is a prime example of an author who's not just with success someone-published, but ill-used crowdfunding to springboard his work to a much larger audience.

Tides of Fortune marks your 8th project connected Kickstarter – how has crowdfunding impacted your reach as an author?

MW:

Good question! I definitely needed a prod to cause The Knife's Edge, book one of the Saga, off the ground. What I didn't expect was a couple of-fold. First, I love my Kickstarter returning fans. I've met people that I never would take normally thanks to Kickstarter, and then they assure their friends. This happens with my books, but Kickstarter is a little different. It gives so much great and unique opportunities (ilk my opportunity to write people in American Samoa characters, or penning a short story for someone) that are indeed individualistic and special, that it draws in a alone push and encourages populate to say "hey, you might be concerned in that".

Second, I've had the honor of having awe-inspiring multitude like Michael J. Anne Sullivan and a couple of others who found Pine Tree State and my projects on Kickstarter. He believed in the Saga and reached out to his fans. As a result, I saw a huge influx of astonishing illusion fans from complete. Lastly, I think now is a special time because there's such a pass over-section of awing fantasise authors like Brandon Sanderson, MJS, and more who really pull off in true lovers of fantasy, uppercase books. Now, everyone gets entirely these things, but they develop to be truly a part of the project likewise–an integral spell that helps bring it to life. And get sweet swag.

"First, I love my Kickstarter returning fans. I've met mass that I never would have normally thanks to Kickstarter, and and then they tell their friends."

Matthew Wolf – Generator of the Ronin Saga

I think in the current clime, and just in general, everyone wants and craves to be a part of something bigger. I'm nowhere remotely near MJS or Sanderson's level and sphere of influence, just I'm reputable that so many cool readers progress to be a part of my journey and are so activated for its growth.

CB:

Your first Kickstarter cause launched in 2013 – has your approach to new projects changed all over 7 years?

MW:

Well, everything scales, both the written material, the worldbuilding, and of flow, my approach to projects has gotten a tad enthusiast. It secondhand to be simply my mammy and I juggling orders and fulfillment out of my incommodious apartment. Today, things have grown a bit. We cause professional editors, a videographer, a content designer, several artists for things like title illustrations and interior artwork, and a host of explorative readers.

"Overall, however, piece we've grown, I'm tranquil very much an independent author. I love being able to sign each hardcover or paperback by name, by writing in impressive backers into the storey, OR composition fugitive stories of fantasy."

Matthew Wolf – Author of Tides of Fate

In many slipway though, the books are getting big and better, and the Kickstarters much line of work, it's still the same. I am relieve doing 90% of the work, and I like information technology that way. I deficiency to be integrally a part of the process. Also, financial backin has grown, but the number allocated has always stayed the same. With book one, The Knife's Edge, our goal was $3000 I believe, now we're aiming for a base of $12,000. However, like book one, I want to foot a good portion of the bill for Tides of Fate. This includes a large print black market, a host of editors, artists, etc (see Kickstarter for brimming transparency break down).

Overall, nevertheless, while we've grownup, I'm silence very a lot an independent author. I love being fit to sign for each one hardcover or paperback by name, by writing in awing backers into the story, Oregon penning short stories of fantasy. My time has full-grown a bit thinner, and the books are demanding more of my time, but I definitely testament never change being the guy cable doing a lot of the grunt work.

Many crowdfunding projects shin to keep their momentum sledding once the campaign is over – how did you make the transition from Kickstarter to Amazon best seller?

MW:

I honestly intend that was word of backtalk. I transmitted out hundreds of copies for people to read, bloggers, reviewers, influencers, posted on forums, applied for deals and promotions, and a slew of other things to sire the word out. However, a lot of the sales I've heard about concluded years are simply friends placing the Saga into some other's work force and saying "you got to read this".

CB:

Where can readers find your books and what cool rewards potty backers expect with Tides of Fate?

MW:

Virago is always a top point, but we take in a brand new website that's getting a lot of love where you can get personalized and autographed copies of any of the books in the serial publication, as well as awesome swag. Check it out at www.dull-wolf.com

I couldn't be Sir Thomas More excited nigh some of the rewards for Tides of Fate. Firstly, backers get early-bird copies, a discharge different months before general audiences, AND are automatically included in the acknowledgments just for existence a part of the stick out.

We'd like to thank Matthew Wolf for pickings the time for this interview. If you'd like help put on Tides of Fate happening your bookshelf, you can presently pre-order the book in integer, softback book or hardcover editions. Pledges start at $10 and are estimated to deliver November 2020.
